Coburg - A Vivid Town Abound in History
This is a beatiful town of Coburg, comprising of a mere 42,000 residents, shines due to its huge amount of artistic treasures and historical buildings. The former dukedom Saxony-Coburg and Gotha became world famous becuase of their very clever political intermarriage.
Many famous people have lived here, such as Richard Strauss, Hektor Berlioz, Nicolo Pahnini, Franz Liszt, Friedrich Rückert, Jean Paul, Queen Victoria, etc. Martin Luther found asylum for about six months in the Fortress Coburg and the "king of valse" Johann Strauß gave up his Austrian citizenship to live with his true love as citizen of Coburg.
Visitors will find a huge variety of arts and culture, classic events and modern concerts, open-air-events on the Schloßplatz, operas, operettas, revues, ballet and acting in the Courtly Theatre, Europe's biggest Samba-Festival, etc.
The Vogelschießen, the Schloßplatz-Festival ("Northern Bavaria's biggest Gourmet-Party"), the Market-Festival, the Museum-Night and the Christmas Fair of Coburg are amoungst some of the more important events in Coburgs annual calendar
