Marksmen’s Festival in Kronach
The „fifth season“ in the Franconian Forest – the oldest and biggest fair in the whole region
The Marksmen’s Festival (Schützenfest) in Kronach is one of the oldest and most vivid traditions of the Franconian Forest.
The annual shooting competition organized by the shooting club of Kronach dates back to the year 1588. Combined with one of the most beautiful and biggest folk fairs of Franconia, the shooters of the region try to find a champion in several categories, such as air gun, small bore and pistol. Modern sport shooting, tradition and the amazing ambience of a vivid folk fair make Kronach’s Marksmen’s Festival an attraction for thousands of people from near and far, who want to enjoy the feeling, the beer and the music of various bands.
During the traditional parade through the streets of the town center, the king and queen of the shooters greet the people and on Tuesday the children’s parade is the start of a children’s day on the festival area.
After ten days of celebrating, the festival comes to an end and the residents and visitors of Kroach already look forward to the next “fifth season”.
Date 2018: 09.08. - 19.08.
